Set-up of the construction site from 9 PM to 2 AM between Friday night
and early Saturday
Three alternatives: Victoria Bridge, Jacques-Cartier Bridge and
LONGUEUIL, QC, May 31, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - The Jacques Cartier and
Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) wishes to remind motorists that
major roadwork will be taking place on the Champlain Bridge this
weekend from Friday, June 3 at 10 PM to Monday, June 6 at 5 AM, as
announced, to completely replace the expansion joints. During this
period, only one lane will be open towards Montreal and two lanes
towards the South Shore, for the entire weekend, both day and night.
SET-UP OF THE CONSTRUCTION SITE
Please note that the set-up for this closure will necessitate closure of
one of three lanes starting at 9 PM, Friday, June 3 and closure of two
of three lanes in both directions from 10 PM to 2 AM in order to set up
the construction site for the whole weekend. There will therefore only
be one lane open in each direction from 10 PM, Friday, June 3 to 2 AM,
Saturday, June 4. Subsequently a "two lanes towards the South Shore,
one lane towards Montreal" configuration will be in place until Monday
at 5 AM.
REDUCING THE IMPACT
This major roadwork will have a considerable impact on traffic.
Therefore, during this period, it is highly recommended that motorists
avoid the Champlain Bridge and use the Jacques-Cartier Bridge, the Victoria Bridge and even the Honoré-Mercier
Bridge. Please note that roadwork on the Honoré-Mercier Bridge will take place
during the night from Friday at 10 PM to Saturday at 10 AM. The
Honoré-Mercier Bridge will become a viable option subsequently for the
rest of the weekend.
Please also note that the Victoria Bridge will continue with its usual
configuration for the entire weekend, as the complete closure of the
bridge towards the South Shore would create important inconveniences
for motorists, as was effected two weeks ago. As well, the Tour de l'Île de Montréal will occasion the closure of Wellington Street at the Victoria Bridge
on Sunday, June 5 from 9:35 AM to 4:15 PM, which will further
complicate traffic in this sector. Three lanes of the Jacques-Cartier
Bridge will be kept open to traffic in one direction or the other as
traffic conditions warrant and provide a good alternative for
It should be noted that, at 3.3 metres wide, the northbound traffic lane
on the Champlain Bridge will be narrower than usual. Trucks exceeding the permissible width must avoid the Champlain Bridge northbound.
Finally, please note that no major closures will occur during the Canadian Grand Prix weekend. Roadwork will continue subsequently towards the South Shore (1
lane open to the South Shore and 2 lanes open towards Montreal) from
Friday, June 17 at 10 PM to Monday, June 20 at 5 AM to complete the
roadwork on the expansion joints scheduled for this year and postponed
last weekend. It is important to note that during the month of July, we
will avoid major closings of the bridge, but that work will
nevertheless continue underneath the structure, either on the pillars,
concrete beams or bridge pier cap.
Subsequently, major closures will resume in August in order to complete
paving and in September on Highway 15. To find out more about the
complete upcoming schedule for spring and summer, please consult the

Every effort has been made to complete this roadwork as quickly and
efficiently as possible. Please also note that the roadwork may be
rescheduled due to unfavourable weather conditions.
