"Chain Gangs" Will Have No Chains

Public safety and security details still "to be worked out"

TORONTO, Sept. 25, 2011 /CNW/ - With just 11 days until Election Day, Tim Hudak still doesn't know how his reckless and dangerous prisoners-in-parks scheme will work.

Hudak has misled most Ontarians into believing his so-called "chain gangs" will be chained.  They won't.

Hudak has pretended these prisoners are not dangerous.  That isn't true, they are very dangerous.

Hudak wants Ontarians to believe he has a plan to keep our seniors and children safe as he literally empties our jails, every day of the week, into our communities.  He doesn't.

Don't take our word for it… he admitted it himself:

"Hudak said he has no plans to have prisoners manacled while they're doing their tasks, but security details will have to be worked out with correctional service officials and superintendents." (Hamilton Spectator, May 27, 2011)

It's been four months since Hudak announced this incredibly dangerous policy.  Given its risk to public safety, its time he provided some of the details.

Who Tim Hudak is releasing into our communities:

Violent criminals, including killers, in the provincial jail - 769

  • convicted of: homicide and related; serious violent; sexual; misc offense against person; assault and related

Drug offenders - 261

  • convicted of: trafficking or importing drugs; drug possession

Burglars and thieves - 646

  • convicted of: break & enter; theft/possession of stolen property

Each will be required to spend 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year, out of jail and in parks in your neighbourhood, with minimal supervision.

With just 11 Days until Election Day,
Tim Hudak still has no plan to keep us safe from his reckless policy.
