CGA-Canada Recognized as One of Canada's Greenest Employers

VANCOUVER, April 22 /CNW/ - The Certified General Accountants Association of Canada (CGA-Canada) is delighted to be named one of Canada's Greenest Employers for 2011 by the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers.

"We're happy to be recognized for our environmental efforts. Green business is good business and that starts at the top, with our Board and leadership team setting the environmental direction for the organization," says Joyce Evans, CGA-Canada Board Chair. "We recognize that engaging our employees to make small changes every day can add-up to significant green achievements."

"It's fitting that today is Earth Day. We take a similar approach to Earth Day's 'one billion acts of green,' with a focus on enabling numerous small changes," says Anthony Ariganello, President and CEO of CGA-Canada. "We continue to promote and develop initiatives that help employees make greener choices."

CGA-Canada finds meaningful ways to incorporate environmental considerations into day-to-day business with such initiatives as:

  • Recyclable furniture and flooring, with work surfaces made from 100% pre-consumer recycled wood fiber
  • A lighting system with 44% fewer lamps than traditional systems
  • Use of environment-friendly cleaning products
  • Reduced paper product usage by providing ceramic kitchenware
  • Coffee-grounds composting program
  • Electronic device recycling program
  • An organized car-pool system
  • Increased natural light in office spaces

Now in its fifth year, Canada's Greenest Employers recognizes companies that lead the nation in creating a culture of environmental awareness in their organizations. The reasons for selection for each of Canada's Greenest Employers are published online at www.canadastop100.com/environmental.

Each employer is evaluated by the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers for the unique environmental initiatives and programs they have developed; the extent to which they have been successful in reducing the organization's own environmental footprint; the degree to which their employees are involved in these programs and whether they contribute any unique skills; and the extent to which these initiatives have become linked to the employer's public identity and whether they attract new people to the organization.

CGA-Canada is also currently one of Canada's Top 100 Employers and B.C.'s Top 55 Employers.
