TORONTO, May 31, 2011 /CNW/ - Today, the Canadian Federation of
Independent Business (CFIB) and the Canadian Youth Business Foundation
(CYBF) joined the Honourable Sandra Pupatello, minister of economic
development and trade at Queen's Park to designate 2011 the Year of the Entrepreneur in Ontario. This declaration coincides with CFIB's 40th anniversary and the 15th anniversary of CYBF.
"What a way to celebrate 40 years of being the BIG VOICE for Small
Business," said CFIB president Catherine Swift. "We applaud the Ontario
Government for acknowledging the blood, sweat and tears that small
businesses have invested in building a stronger Ontario."
Earlier this year, the Government of Canada adopted a joint
recommendation by the CFIB and the CYBF to make the declaration
nation-wide. With small businesses accounting for 97 per cent of all
business in Ontario, and employing nearly half the provincial
workforce, both groups wrote to Premier Dalton McGuinty to encourage a
similar proclamation in Ontario.
"We hope this announcement pushes entrepreneurship to the forefront of
the upcoming provincial election," said CFIB's Ontario vice-president
