MONTREAL, Feb. 8 /CNW/ - CAW-CP Rail workplace representatives from
right across the country have unanimously endorsed a new collective
agreement, reached late Friday night. More than 50 workplace leaders
met in Montreal last night and this morning to review the contents of
At this morning's meeting both CAW National President Ken Lewenza and
CAW National Secretary-Treasurer Peter Kennedy addressed the group and
commended them on their efforts, particularly the bargaining committee
who had been working to get a deal since mid-September.
In his comments, Lewenza also underscored the importance of union
density in making positive change in the lives of working people, both
union and non. The railways have a long history of unionization in
CAW Local 101 represents 2,100 mechanical services workers (shopcraft)
at CP Rail.
The deal is subject to ratification which will take place in a series of
cross country meetings over the next three weeks. Details of the
agreement will be released upon ratification.
