CALGARY, Sept. 15, 2011 /CNW/ - DIRTT Environmental Solutions, a modular
interior wall manufacturer based in Calgary, is able to thrive within
the proposed "Buy American" provision by using 3D configuration
software called ICE®.
ICE is 3D configuration software that allows DIRTT clients to design a
customized interior space and fly through it like a videogame. Within
ICE's interface, changes may be made to the look and layout while the
software keeps tabs on cost changes, specifications and even
manufacturing instructions. The final ICE drawing is sent directly to
the manufacturing factory, where the machines read the design
information and cut, drill and produce exactly what the client wanted.
The price, parts list and even manufacturing directions are instantly
produced. This eliminates human error in the transcribing of designs to
SKU numbers and lowers the labour overhead of the manufacturer.
With ICE, DIRTT is able to open manufacturing plants anywhere in the
world because they don't need highly trained manpower to run a factory.
Manufacturers as diverse as data center producers and school furniture
factories now use ICE as a production tool. DIRTT has been in business
for just six years and, in addition to its original Calgary plant, has
already opened new production facilities in Savannah, GA and Phoenix,
AZ. DIRTT itself has become the top selling modular wall producer in
North America with 2011 sales approaching $120 million.
DIRTT keeps their Canadian plant in Calgary to full capacity while
bringing jobs to the U.S., their products closer to their clients, and
lessening their carbon footprint for transportation. DIRTT stands for
Doing It Right This Time and is a Certified B Corporation.
