Canada's Premier Infection Prevention and Control Conference

May 29-June 2, 2011; Toronto

WINNIPEG, May 24 /CNW/ - Canada's Infection Prevention and Control Professionals meet at the Sheraton Centre Toronto from May 29 to June 2, 2011.

The Community and Hospital Infection Control Association (CHICA-Canada) will bring together Infection Prevention and Control Professionals (ICPs), Medical Microbiologists, Epidemiologists, and Infectious Disease specialists from all areas involved in the prevention of healthcare-acquired infections. Specialized sessions will focus on the education requirements of the Novice ICP, the Advanced ICP, and the Designate who is not an ICP but has infection prevention and control responsibilities in their institution.

During the conference (Tuesday-Thursday), plenary sessions will highlight issues around mandatory vaccinations, antibiotic resistance in the food chain, and experiences with Universal Screening.

Special guest lecturers include Dr. Brian Goldman who will present the Keynote Session, focusing in Creating a Culture of Safety (Tuesday).  Dr. Didier Pittet, WHO Geneva, world renowned expert on Hand Hygiene, will present on worldwide perspectives (Tuesday). Dr. Robert Buckman, well known Toronto physician and communicator, will close the conference with his perspectives on "How to Communicate So People Will Listen." (Thursday).

The conference is pleased to announce that Dr. David Butler-Jones, Chief Public Health Officer, Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), will present a special lecture including an update on PHAC initiatives on Thursday.

The CHICA-Canada annual conference should not be missed.  CHICA-Canada is the national, professional organization for those interested in the prevention and control of infections in all healthcare settings.  In 2011, CHICA-Canada celebrates its 35th Anniversary.
