TORONTO, May 17 /CNW/ - On Thursday, May 19, 2011, at the Ritz-Carlton on 181 Wellington St., Easter Seals Ontario
presents its prestigious Easter Seals Toronto's Tribute awards to
recognize excellence in business and community service. This year's
recipients are The Honourable John P. Manley, President and CEO of the
Canadian Council of Chief Executives and Brian Burke, President and
General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Toronto's Tribute Dinner
takes place in the Ritz-Carlton Ballroom, with cocktails at 6:00 p.m.
and dinner beginning at 7:00 p.m.
"The Toronto's Tribute Dinner is a way for the entire Easter Seals
organization to recognize leaders who demonstrate excellence in their
industries, in their communities and lend their support to children and
youth with physical disabilities," said Duncan Hawthorne, Toronto's
Tribute Committee Chair and President and CEO of Bruce Power. "Bruce
Power is proud to be the Title Sponsor of this event."
Bruce Power is a strong supporter of Easter Seals Ontario, making a
significant financial contribution towards the new Bruce Power
Recreation Centre, a fully accessible multi-sport centre at Easter
Seals Camp Woodeden, near London. The Bruce Power Recreation Centre
will be used by children and youth with physical disabilities who
attend Easter Seals camp, as well as by individuals of all ages and
levels of ability.
"Our ability to serve children and youth with physical disabilities is
largely dependent on public support and on the generosity of
organizations like Bruce Power," said Nelson Millman, Chair of the
Board for Easter Seals Ontario. "With the participation of our
tributees, The Honourable John P. Manley and Brian Burke, the money
raised will help ensure that Easter Seals kids get the programs they
The money raised supports the new, fully accessible, recreation centre
currently under construction at Easter Seals Camp Woodeden in London.
This new facility, near completion, will be used to offer expanded
programs for children and youth with physical disabilities during the
summer months and throughout the year. Bruce Power also hosts the
annual Spirit of Giving Dinner in Port Elgin, Ontario. This year's Spirit of Giving Dinner takes place on Tuesday, October 18th at the CAW Family Education Centre in Port Elgin.
Since 2003, the Toronto's Tribute has raised over $ 3.4 million, with
all proceeds going directly to help families of children with physical
disabilities across Ontario. Past recipients of the Easter Seals
Toronto's Tribute Award include: The Honourable Dwight Duncan,
Ontario's Minister of Finance and Don MacKinnon, President of the Power
Workers' Union (2010); Frank McKenna, Deputy Chair, TD Bank Group and
Patrick Dillon, Business Manager and Secretary Treasurer, Provincial
Building and Construction Trades Council of Ontario (2009); Roger
Abbott and Don Ferguson of CBC's Royal Canadian Air Farce (2008);
