DUNCAN, BC, June 5, 2011 /CNW/ - Nonuttin' Foods Inc., a BC Food
Manufacturer, has issued a voluntary recall for five food products that
were distributed in stores nationally and through online orders since
February of 2011. The risk assessment conducted by the Canadian Food
Inspection Agency (CFIA) has classified the five products affected as
either moderate or low risk for sesame. By Monday, June 6, it is
expected that the CFIA will put the exact details on their site at: http://active.inspection.gc.ca/eng/corp/recarapp_dbe.asp
Alana Elliott, President and Founder of Nonuttin' Foods said, "While we
do not yet know a confirmed source of any sesame, we are working with
the CFIA to determine the course of our investigation. This was
triggered by one report of a non-life-threatening reaction while eating
our Fruit Explosion Trail Mix along with several other food products
not manufactured by us."
Elliott continues, "The investigation has been puzzling as sesame is not
used as an ingredient in the Nonuttin' facility nor in the facilities
of our suppliers. We will continue to explore this with our suppliers
who are cooperating fully."
Nonuttin' Foods was created by Elliott, the mother of a child with 4
life-threatening food allergies when she could find no safe snacks for
her child. Since that time, the company has been dedicated to serving
consumers who have difficulty finding tasty, healthful snacks free of
multiple food allergens.
"We want to confirm the results of potential sesame traces without
delay. It is imperative to us to err on the side of caution for our
customers while we investigate. I would expect no less for my loved
ones with food allergies," said Elliott.
In the meantime, the affected product labels will be amended with the
voluntary statement, "May contain sesame".
