OAK PARK, MI, Sept. 15, 2011 /CNW/ - Azure Dynamics Corporation (TSX:
AZD)(OTC: AZDDF) ("Azure" or the "Company"), a world leader in the
development and production of hybrid electric and electric components
and powertrain systems for light and medium duty commercial vehicles,
announced today that the Ford Transit Connect Electric, powered by
Azure's patented Force DriveTM electric powertrain, was named winner of the prestigious "Oko-Globe"
(translated as "Eco Globe") environmental award. The "Oko-Globe,"
presented by the Oko-Globe Institute at the University of
Duisburg-Essen, is considered among the foremost international
environmental award in the auto industry.
"This award is a real coup for the Transit Connect Electric and tangible
recognition of the innovation and environmental benefits provided by
Azure's Force DriveTM system," said Scott Harrison, Azure's CEO. "More and more customers are
demanding cleaner, more efficient power for their fleets. Combined
with the car-like driving characteristics and reduced operating costs,
Transit Connect Electric is an ideal product for them and the Oko-Globe
award is an added testimony to its built-in environmental benefits."
This is the fifth consecutive year a Ford platform has won an Oko-Globe
award. "We are indeed delighted about this renewed award," said
Bernhard Mattes, Chairman of Ford GmbH. "Electric power is generally a
better value for the money than a tank full of premium fuel or
diesel….This makes Transit Connect Electric the ideal choice for
clients who want to reduce their costs and at the same time make a
lasting contribution to the environment."
To create the Transit Connect Electric, Azure integrates its proven
Force DriveTM electric powertrain into the award-winning Ford Transit Connect.
Utilizing an advanced lithium-ion battery, Transit Connect Electric can
achieve a range of up to 80-130KM/50-80 miles on a single charge and
has a load capacity of 500kgs.
The Transit Connect Electric powertrain provides powerful benefits for
commercial vehicle users who have drive cycles that often include
predictable, short range routes with frequent stop/start driving in
