MONTREAL, Sept. 13, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - Some 300 golfers took part in
the eleventh annual Golf Classic of the Fondation du Centre hospitalier
de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM) this past September 12 at the
renowned Laval-sur-Lac Club. This summer event, marking especially the
fifteenth anniversary of the CHUM, brought together a historical sum of
$ 2,015,000 for the benefit of the hospital. A great success indeed!
Co-presidents for the 2011 Golf Classic were Dr Guy Leclerc, cardiologist and founder of the CHUM's Cardiovascular
Centre, and Marie-Berthe Des Groseillers, corporate secretary of the
BMTC Group Inc. and president of the Brault & Martineau Foundation.
Also present for the event was the Minister for Health and Social
Services, Yves Bolduc, the spokesman for the Fondation du CHUM, Yvon
Deschamps and his wife, Judi Richards, along with many members of the
medical and business communities.
"The success of this Classic sends a most important message to the
community and it is this: our partners are with us in this endeavour,
investing time and money to support our cause and work for a healthy
Québec," said Dr Leclerc. "Over and above the construction project for the new hospital,
the Foundation is putting forth greater efforts than ever before to
improve patient care. To all of you who are behind us, be aware that
you are making a difference, and for that, I am grateful!" he added.
"This year the CHUM will celebrate its fifteenth anniversary," noted the
Director General and CEO of the CHUM, Christian Paire, "fifteen years
in which it has managed to become a genuine point of reference for
modern medicine, thanks to the involvement and the drive of the people
who staff it. While work goes ahead rapidly on the new hospital site,
the CHUM is stronger because of the path it has taken and is equally
proud of a promising future. The support of donors in this major
undertaking has been noteworthy. Through their investments in teaching,
in research and in the cutting-edge equipment acquired, they have
succeeded in making the CHUM a world-class university hospital."
Ékram Antoine Rabbat, President and CEO of the Foundation, took the
occasion to thank warmly all the partners and participants and,
especially, Abbott Vascular, Bell, the Brault & Martineau Foundation,
Medtronic and Roche.
"Our 2011 Golf Classic is a resounding success and it is clear that we
have many people who get involved because they care about the health of
Quebecers and want to play an active role in providing the community
with health care in the forefront of technology. These people
strengthen our resolve to continue pursuing a host of future projects!"
declared Mr. Rabbat.
