Latest high-profile appointment secures Hockley's emergence as one of Ontario's most important culinary
TORONTO, Sept. 8, 2011 /CNW/ - Acclaimed Toronto chef Alex Johnston has
joined Hockley Valley Resort as Executive Chef. In his new role, he
will oversee all restaurant and culinary operations at the iconic
hotel, golf and ski destination.
Alex Johnston was born and raised in the Little Italy neighbourhood of
Toronto, and completed his culinary training at George Brown College.
Upon graduation he spent a formative year cooking in Paris, where he
was influenced by the passion behind France's regional cuisine. Most
recently, Johnston has worked as Executive Chef and Owner of Provenance
Regional Cuisine, a catering and retail food business that connects
Torontonians with Ontario producers.
"Alex's decision to join Hockley Valley Resort is yet another indication
that our garden-to-table philosophy is resonating well beyond the Hills

Johnston is also known for his work with Jamie Kennedy, the celebrated
Canadian chef and local food movement champion. As Events and Catering
Chef at JK Gardiner, and Chef of Operations at JK Gilead production
kitchen, Johnston built relationships with family farms and artisan
producers that form the heart of his cooking style.

Johnston's arrival at Hockley follows the appointment of another
renowned chef, Michael Potters. Potters will be overseeing a new and
yet-to-be named high-end leisure restaurant, the latest in a series of
transformations at the Resort. Hockley's recent makeover includes the
addition of three new restaurants: Babbo, Tavola and Restaurant 85, as
well as a two-acre fruit and vegetable garden which supplies almost all
the produce and preserves for the resort's restaurants.
