TORONTO, June 9, 2011 /CNW/ - The Canadian Society of Magazine Editors
(CSME) announced the 2011 Editors' Choice Award winners on Wednesday,
June 8, at a gala dinner held during the MagNet conference in Toronto.
Outdoor Canada was this year's big winner, taking the titles of best
medium-sized consumer magazine, best display writing, and editor of the
year. Of the three honours from his peers, the display writing prize,
named for his friend, the late Jim Cormier, was the one that made
editor Patrick Walsh "get weepy."
Retaining their titles from last year, This Magazine and Design Edge
Canada won the small-circulation and trade publication honours
respectively, with Homemakers getting the nod for top large-circulation
magazine. Best website editorial went to BC Business Magazine's online
edition, and Spacing won the inaugural Blog of the Year award. Rounding
out the awards, Best Front of Book went to Garden Making.
Prior to the awards ceremony, Greg Kayko, editorial director of Meredith
Special Interest Media, addressed the sold-out room, with inspirational
- and lucrative - examples of why he's sure that "print is not dead."
