Halton Region Named CPRS Don Rennie Memorial Award Winner
VICTORIA, June 13, 2012 /CNW/ - The Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) named Halton Region as the recipient of the 2012 Don Rennie Memorial Award. Accepting the award on behalf of the Region was Carleen Carroll, APR, Director of Strategic Communications. Halton Region was recognized for its communications strategy that helped engage the community in strategic planning through a new and innovative approach. A framed certificate was presented to Carroll as she was acknowledged in front of industry peers during the CPRS National Awards of Excellence gala in Victoria on June 12.
"Halton Region believes that two-way dialogue with our residents leads to better decision making and increased public trust. The priorities identified through Halton's innovative strategic planning process are a true reflection of our community. Thank you to CPRS for presenting us with this prestigious award recognizing innovation in government communications," said Gary Carr, Chairman, Halton Region. Carroll indicated Halton has decided to forward the cash portion of the award to their United Way campaign.
The Don Rennie Memorial Award is open to government communications professionals in federal, provincial or municipal jurisdictions. One of the team members must be a current member of CPRS. The Award is presented annually in memory of Don Rennie. The award was one of two Special Awards presented at this year's awards gala. The second award in this category was the CPRS/CNW Group Student Award of Excellence. The award submissions are judged by the Awards Committee Presiding Officers in consultation with the National President.
