Second Harvest and Longo's Spring into Action
Foodraising campaign Spring Chicken launches in Longo's stores across the GTA
TORONTO, April 13, 2012 /CNW/ - As a response to low food donations in the spring, Second Harvest, Toronto's largest food rescue organization, has "hatched" a plan with Longo's for a new foodraising campaign called Spring Chicken. This campaign asks customers to donate a chicken to Second Harvest at stores across the GTA from April 13th-26th to help get much needed protein to hungry people in our city.
"Every year during the spring months, Second Harvest's food donations drop significantly. The need for food, especially protein, at our community agencies, is higher than ever at this time. Spring Chicken was developed to address this need in our city," says Melissa Dedic, Interim Director of Operations at Second Harvest.
There are three ways to participate and donate to the Spring Chicken campaign:
- For every Maple Leaf Prime whole chicken sold, which is currently on special, in a single pack or a double pack, Longo's will donate $2 to Second Harvest.
- Shoppers can donate $2 at the cash register.
- Online shoppers can support the campaign by purchasing a Maple Leaf Prime whole chicken at www.grocerygateway.com and Longo's will donate $2 for every pack sold.
All funds raised from this campaign will go towards providing fresh chicken to Second Harvest's community agencies. For more information about the campaign, please visit secondharvest.ca
