TORONTO, April 10, 2012 /CNW/ - Xperia™ S, the first smartphone from the new Xperia NXT series - next generation smartphones from Sony - will soon make its Canadian debut. A limited number of Xperia S smartphones will be available exclusively at Sony Stores across Canada, beginning April 17^th. Canadians can purchase their Xperia S, which is compatible with the Rogers wireless network, directly at the Sony Store.

The Xperia S is an Android smartphone that delivers a stunning HD viewing experience with a high resolution screen, brilliant 4.3" HD Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA® engine and a 12MP fast capture camera that goes from sleep to snap in just over a second with a single key press. This smartphone also features a powerful 1.5GHz dual-core processor for faster performance.

With quick and simple HD sharing across four screens, the Xperia S allows consumers to effortlessly connect, share and control content on multiple screens whether it's a TV, smartphone, laptop or tablet using HDMI, DLNA or BRAVIA Sync. Xperia S is also NFC (Near Field Communication) enabled allowing consumers to share content with each other as well as enjoy an increasing number of NFC applications and services.

Xperia S has full access to the richest entertainment experiences from Sony Entertainment Network*. The recently launched Music Unlimited offers a global catalogue of 15 million songs, while Video Unlimited has the latest Hollywood blockbusters and TV shows from all major studios**.

Instantly Recognizable Design
Xperia S showcases a new design approach referred to as "Iconic Identity". The design will be replicated across the Xperia NXT series and creates a simple strong look that is instantly recognizable. The transparent element at the base creates an iconic silhouette where the display is emphasized and underlined. In addition, it provides illumination effects and integrates the antenna components.
The user interface has been redesigned to match the minimalistic design of the hardware. The home screen has a new colourful flow background making full usage of HD Reality Display and dual-core processing power.

Availability
Xperia S will be available in limited quantities across Canada, exclusively at the Sony Store. It is compatible with the Rogers wireless network and is launching with Android platform 2.3 (Gingerbread).
