Valley View Villa employees looking for final word on Sodexho bid

NEW GLASGOW, NS, March 28 /CNW/ - The union representing employees at
Valley View Villa says employees there are anxious to know the outcome of a
bid from Sodexho Inc. to manage facility services.
CUPE Local 2330 President Betty Jean Sutherland says, "We have presented
a first round of petitions to the board, urging them to rethink the idea. But
both Board Chair Harry Ferguson and Administrator Norman Ferguson are simply
telling us the bid still isn't in.
"We say Valley View Villa owes it to its employees to clear up this
uncertainty and let them know what's happening," says Sutherland.
Valley View Villa is considering a bid from the French-owned
multinational corporation to take over management of the nursing home's
'Ancillary Services', which CUPE argues will have a serious impact on the
quality of care being provided to these residents as well as the number of
jobs at the nursing home.
The union has also been waging a public campaign urging family members of
residents at the facility and members of the broader public to find out more
about what handing over our health care services to foreign-owned companies
could mean for Pictou County.
