New Year's Day dip into chilly Lake Ontario for Habitat for Humanity Toronto

Dippers at the 7th Annual Polar Bear Dip hope to raise $40,000 to build affordable housing for low-income families

TORONTO, Dec. 28, 2011 /CNW/ - Habitat for Humanity Toronto and the Toronto Polar Bear Club will ring in the New Year with a splash at the 7th Annual Polar Bear Dip. More than 400 Torontonians will brave the chilly waters of Lake Ontario at Sunnyside Park on Sunday January 1st 2012 and dip to raise funds for Habitat Toronto.

Neil Hetherington, regular participant and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Toronto says, "The Annual Polar Bear Dip is an exhilarating way to start the New Year. By participating, these dippers help make a tremendous difference in the lives of families living in need."

Since 2006, individuals and corporate sponsors have raised over $88 000 for Habitat for Humanity Toronto. This year's participants hope to raise $40 000. The money raised will support the building of affordable housing for low-income families living in Toronto.

A lone bagpiper will lead the brave dippers to the water. Following the dip, live bands will welcome dippers back on shore for the presentation of prizes to the top fundraisers.
