Media Advisory - The Transportation Safety Board of Canada Releases Investigation Report into the August 2010 Freight Train Derailment near Airdrie, AB

GATINEAU, QC, Dec. 14, 2011 /CNW/ - The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) today released its final investigation report (R10C0086) into the 03 August 2010 derailment of a Canadian Pacific Railway freight train near Airdrie, Alberta. The report is available on the TSB website at www.bst-tsb.gc.ca.

On 03 August 2010, a freight train consisting of 2 locomotives and 101 cars was proceeding southbound towards Calgary, Alberta, when it derailed 32 cars just north of Airdrie. The derailed cars included 12 pressure tank cars containing anhydrous ammonia. There were no injuries and no product was lost.

The TSB is an independent agency that investigates marine, pipeline, railway and aviation transportation occurrences. Its sole aim is the advancement of transportation safety. It is not the function of the Board to assign fault or determine civil or criminal liability.
