On Cloud 6/49: 27-Year Old Maple Resident Wins $11.8 Million LOTTO 6/49 Jackpot

27-year old Maple resident Alexander Berkovich accepts his cheque for $11.8 million, after winning the November 26, 2011 LOTTO 6/49 jackpot (CNW Group/OLG Winners)

TORONTO, Dec. 6, 2011 /CNW/ - For Maple resident Alexander Berkovich, this past Sunday started out like a regular weekend day until his brother came home to tell him that Alexander is a multi-millionaire! Alexander had the winning ticket for the $11.8 million jackpot from the November 26, 2011 LOTTO 6/49 draw.

"I'm still in shock. It hasn't sunken in," said Alexander, who arrived at the OLG Toronto Prize Centre with his mother and brother to claim his prize. "I feel like I'm telling a lie when I let people know that I just won more than $11 million dollars!"

Alexander, originally from Belarus, is a regular LOTTO 6/49 and LOTTO MAX player, buying a couple of tickets every Friday. His brother plays too and went to check both their tickets at the self scanner on the weekend.

"My brother was so excited when he came home to share the good news," said Alexander. "I checked the numbers online three more times to see it for myself."

The 27-year old labourer and machinist is going to take his time to decide what to do with the bulk of his windfall. "I will be quitting my job and I've thought about going to back to school but I have not planned yet for any big purchases. It'll be nice not to have to think about money all the time," smiled Alexander.

Alexander will also share some of his good fortune with his family - including his brother.

The winning ticket was purchased at Mac's Convenience Store on Jane Street in Maple.

Since LOTTO 6/49 was launched in June 1982, Ontario players have won more than $9.6 billion in prizes, including 1,221 jackpot wins. As of October 29, 2011, there have been 2,898 LOTTO 6/49 draws. For more information, please visit www.olg.ca and click on Lotteries.
