Montagne Sèche wind farm: Cartier énergie éolienne officially launches operations

LONGUEUIL, QC, Dec. 1, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - Cartier énergie éolienne inc. is pleased to announce that the construction of the Montagne Sèche wind farm has been completed and that the commercial operation of that farm started on November 25, 2011.

During the construction of the Montagne Sèche wind farm, the Gaspé region and the Matane RCM received investments of more than $50 million, namely the equivalent of at least 60% of the development and construction costs for the project. More than 400 workers contributed to the success of this project, most of who come from the designated region.

Cartier énergie éolienne is delightred to be present in the Côte de Gaspé RCM with a second project, following the L'Anse-à-Valleau wind farm built in 2007 and wishes to thank the people in the region for their enthusiastic welcome. Without this remarkable social acceptance, this project would not have come to fruition. The Gaspé people and particularly the people of Petite-Vallée and Cloridorme made a veritable contribution to the success of the Montagne Sèche wind farm and they can be proud of their accomplishment.

The next 20 years will now be dedicated to operating the Montagne Sèche wind farm, which includes 39 windmills for a capacity of 58.5 MW. The municipalities and the local organizations will share royalties and voluntary contributions or more than $74,000 per year throughout the years during which the Montagne Sèche wind farm is operated, for close to $1.5 million over 20 years.

Cartier énergie éolienne, which has its head office in Longueuil, is proud to be able to implement its fifth wind farm within the time frame specified in the first call for tenders issued by Hydro-Québec Distribution for the purchase of 1000 MW of wind energy. Cartier énergie éolienne is a partnership of TransCanada Corporation and Innergex Énergie Renouvelable inc.
