announced the finalists for the 15th annual Canadian Awards for International
Cooperation.
Twenty-two companies, associations and groups have been short-listed as
finalists for awards in nine different categories, each recognizing the
excellence of Canadian organizations in developing countries.
Perrin Beatty, CME President and CEO said the awards honour excellence
and corporate and personal commitment to international development. "Canadians
are working to make a significant, sustainable positive difference in

strengthening public health associations in developing countries
- CARE Canada (Ottawa, ON) for its program "Reducing Vulnerability to
Climate Change" in Bangladesh
- CARE Canada (Ottawa, ON) for its "Gone Rural" program in Swaziland,
Africa
- CARE Canada (Ottawa, ON) for its Vegcare program in Eastern Kenya
- Collège Montmorency (Laval, Que) for Functional rehabilitation of
conflict victims in Casamance, Senegal
- CPCS Transcom Limited (Ottawa, ON) for the Maritime Aids System
Project, Papua New Guinea
- Dessau-Soprin International (Montreal, Que) for Mini hydro-electric
power stations project, Dominican Republic
- Dundee Precious Metals Inc, (Toronto) for Chelopech Mine in Bulgaria
- Econoler International (Quebec City, Que) for improving the efficiency
and cost-effectiveness of the energy sector in India
- Environmental Youth Alliance (Vancouver, BC) for a program to mobilize
and harness the resources of Africa's youth
- George Brown College of Applied Arts & Technology (Toronto, ON) for the
Early Childhood Development program in Jamaica
- Hatfield Consultants Partnership (West Vancouver, BC) for environmental
training and capacity building
- International Centre for Sustainable Cities (Vancouver, BC) for the
Enhancing Sustainable Dairy Production project in Cuba
- Micronutrient Initiative (Ottawa, ON) for Delivering Essential
Nutrients to Benefit the Vulnerable Populations project in India
- Save the Children (Toronto, ON) for Save the Children, Bolivia
- Simon Fraser University (Vancouver, BC) for Women, Poverty, and
Education in Mexico
- Street Kids International (Toronto, ON) for helping youth the world
over to become self-sufficient through entrepreneurship and training
- Université de Montréal for West Africa AIDS Support Project and
Training of Nurses in Morocco Project
- World Vision Canada (Mississauga, ON) for contributing to the quality
of life of women and children in African nations
- YMCA of Greater Vancouver (Vancouver, BC) for building peace locally
and globally by training youth leadersThe award recipients will be announced by Robert Greenhill, President of
the Canadian International Development Agency and Hon. Perrin Beatty,
President and CEO, Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters in a special ceremony to
be held at a Gala Luncheon on May 23 at the Delta Fredericton Hotel during
International Development Days in Fredericton, NB.
