Statement - Lundbeck Canada Inc. contributes to Mental Health Mission of McGill University Health Centre Foundation

OTTAWA, Oct. 21, 2011 /CNW/ - Rx&D President Russell Williams made the following statement to complement the recent announcement by Lundbeck Canada Inc. of a contribution of $250,000 over five years to The Best Care for Life Campaign, in support of the Mental Health Mission of the McGill University Health Centre Foundation (MUHC).

"As a leading international pharmaceutical company dedicated to the development of treatment for diseases of the central nervous system, Lundbeck Canada's donation will help support the MUHC's long-term mission to improve the quality of life for those suffering from psychiatric and neurological disorders. The goal is to bring to Canadians the reality of mental illness and to promote the positive effects of best practice in prevention, diagnosis and medical treatment.

"The chance to improve patient health and quality of life through research and innovation is what motivates all those active in the life science community. This is reflected in lasting strategic partnerships that include not only government and industry, but also universities, health care professionals and the research-based pharmaceutical community.

"It is by working together that we can consolidate the position of Canada as a potential world leader in the provision of health care solutions to people across the country and throughout the world. Further improvements to Canada's intellectual property regime in the context of the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) would greatly facilitate the attraction of additional life sciences investments in Canada by the innovative pharmaceutical sector that will benefit Canadian patients and the economy."
