Jamieson Provides Front-Line Support in Rescue of Puppies and Dogs
Canadians invited to partner with Jamieson to help neglected animals
TORONTO, Sept. 22, 2011 /CNW/ - In response to what is being described as the largest rescue of dogs in Canadian history, Jamieson Laboratories has made a donation of 525 specialized dog beds and 250 packets of Jamieson Premium Adult Dog Treats. The contribution will help alleviate the suffering of more than 500 puppies and dogs recently removed from a commercial breeding facility in Quebec, where they were deprived of basic daily needs. Some 150 of the most at-risk rescued dogs are now receiving critical veterinary care.
"Our goal is to give these puppies and dogs a second chance at good health and happy lives," says Rebecca Aldworth, Executive Director of the Humane Society International (HSl). "Jamieson's incredibly generous donation will play a vital part in helping these animals recover from their deplorable living conditions. The company has set an inspiring example for all Canadians."
HSI estimates that there are some 2,200 puppy mills in the province of Quebec alone, largely unregulated facilities whose sole purpose is to breed animals for profit. But these commercial enterprises can also be found across Canada, where they serve as unhealthy homes to animals with bleak futures.
"When our team learned of this heartbreaking situation, we knew we had to be part of the solution," said Eric Margolis, Chairman of Jamieson Laboratories. "Jamieson has always been at the forefront of animal rights, a cause we are passionate about. We're all shocked at these revelations, and our first goal is to provide emergency assistance. But we also want to play a role in increasing public awareness about the threats to the well-being of animals all over the country."
In addition to the initial donation of necessary supplies, Jamieson Laboratories is providing ongoing support for this massive rescue program. Until April 1, 2012, Jamieson will donate three dollars ($3.00) from the purchase of its PetCare products at www.jamiesondirect.com to HSI.
"It's important to us that individual Canadians are likewise able to play their part in rectifying a horrible injustice," says Margolis.
Jamieson PetCare product line includes natural and clinically pure multivitamins for cats and dogs as well as formulas for joint care and digestion.
