GTA's South Asian Community and University Health Network launch Diwali - A Night to Shine Gala in support of Emergency Medicine

TORONTO, Feb. 23 /CNW/ - On Monday February 28th, 2011, members of GTA's South Asian Community and University Health Network will gather at Toronto General Hospital, to announce the launch of Diwali - A Night to Shine gala is support of University Health Network's Emergency Departments.

Diwali, the South Asian "Festival of Lights", symbolizes hope, luck and prosperity and is one of the most important celebrations on the Indian calendar. Diwali - A Night To Shine will be a major fundraiser celebrating Diwali in Canada.

Special guest at the launch will include The Consul General of India, Mrs. Preeti Saran

"I commend the South Asian community of the Greater Toronto Area for supporting University Health Network. Communities like ours continue to benefit from the excellent care provided at the Toronto General and Western Hospital Emergency Departments, they are greatly deserving of our support," says Mrs. Saran.

Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation will host the first annual Diwali - A Night To Shine gala on October 16, 2011. Taking place at The Fairmont Royal York, Toronto, the evening will feature exquisite Indian cuisine and spectacular Bollywood entertainment. We are anticipating over 800 prominent Canadian political, social and business leaders to attend.

The funds raised from this special gala will support the life-saving care offered in the Emergency Departments of Toronto General Hospital and Toronto Western Hospital at University Health Network. Under the leadership of Dr. Anil Chopra, these departments treat more than 80,000 patients every year, amongst the most complex and most challenging cases in the country.

"The patients in our Emergency Departments come from all backgrounds and communities within the GTA. We are grateful for the leadership and enthusiasm of our South Asian community leaders who are coming forward to support our program and excellence in patient care," says UHN Director of Emergency Medicine Dr. Anil Chopra.
