Look Who Tim Hudak is Bringing to a Playground Near You
TORONTO, July 18, 2011 /CNW/ - Tim Hudak's scheme to put convicted criminals in your neighbourhood clearly hasn't been thought through. It will put Ontario families at risk by taking dangerous criminals out of jails and into communities. Here's who would be eligible for Hudak's catch-and-release program across Ontario (these numbers do not include inmates awaiting trial, only those who would be required to participate in Hudak's mandatory program):
| Offence Category | Number of Inmates |
| Homicide & Related | 16 |
| Serious Violent | 101 |
| Sexual | 79 |
| Break & Enter & Related | 178 |
| Traffic/Import Drugs | 178 |
| Weapons Offences | 78 |
| Fraud & Related | 94 |
| Misc. Offences Against Person | 162 |
| Theft/Possession | 468 |
| Assault & Related | 411 |
| Arson/Property Damage | 55 |
| Moral Offences | 8 |
| Obstruct Justice | 57 |
| Possession Drugs | 83 |
| Traffic - Criminal Code | 112 |
| Administration of Justice | 534 |
| Impaired Driving | 79 |
| Public Order Offences | 5 |
| Other Federal Offences | 21 |
| Highway Traffic Act (Prov.) | 140 |
| Other Provincial Offences | 26 |
| TOTAL | 2885 |
"Tim Hudak is trying to fool people into thinking there aren't dangerous criminals in provincial jails," said Liberal MPP Jim Bradley. "He couldn't be more wrong. His plan puts violent offenders, drug dealers and people convicted of other serious crimes into parks, playgrounds and neighbourhoods."
While similar American programs screen potential participants based on the risks they would pose if they escaped, Hudak's mandatory program would require all prisoners, even the most dangerous and poorly behaved, into our communities.
