WIND MOBILE EMERGES AS CANADA'S FASTEST GROWING CARRIER
Attracts more new subscribers in Q1 than any other wireless provider
TORONTO, May 13 /CNW/ - WIND Mobile has been operating for just over a year but is now officially the fastest growing wireless carrier in Canada. The incumbents have reported their Q1 results and the figures show that WIND Mobile has added more new subscribers than any other provider.
"These numbers prove what we at WIND already knew - Canadians are tired of paying sky-high prices and want a real wireless alternative," said Anthony Lacavera, Chairman of Globalive Communications and WIND Mobile. "It is proof that wireless competition has been long overdue and Canadians are sending a clear signal that they have opted for WIND because of a true value for dollar offering and a positive customer service experience."
By adding more than 39,000 new subscribers in Q1, WIND Mobile claimed 30 per cent of the subscriber growth in the quarter nationally. If that growth is adjusted for the actual size of WIND's coverage areas that means their share was over 50 per cent. This shows there is an increasing trend among Canadians to support competition and lower prices.
WIND Mobile's dominance in the new entrant market can be seen by more than just an increase in subscribers. WIND is now selling in more than 500 locations across Canada, roaming to over 200 countries and planning to expand the network coverage in the coming year. And among the new entrants, WIND has truly emerged as the only viable long-term option as Canada's fourth national carrier.
"The results are clear. The market is shifting. WIND is proving to be the competitive alternative for Canadians," said Ken Campbell, CEO of WIND Mobile. "Our message of value and customer service is resonating with consumers and attracting them at an accelerating rate."
In the fall of 2010, WIND released a study showing that over 85 per cent of Canadians agreed that there are more choices available for mobile phone services than one year ago. The survey also showed that 72 per cent of Canadians say they have more freedom now that they can avoid contracts and over half of Canadians feel that there is more value in their mobile offering.
