CATAAlliance rewards expertise, innovation and leadership in technology
OTTAWA, July 9 /CNW/ - TELUS today announced that the CATAAlliance has
awarded TELUS the Outstanding Product Development - ICT award for the TELUS
Emergency Management Operating System solution (EMOS).
"We are honoured by this recognition for our innovation and technological
development in public safety. TELUS is dedicated to developing integrated
emergency management communication solutions to preserve and protect the
safety of our communities," said Terry Tarle, TELUS director, National
Application Solutions. "EMOS is one of our TELUS SafetyNet solutions with
proven effectiveness in emergency situations such as its successful operation
linking over 35 communities during the 2005 Alberta floods and supporting BC
Coastal Tsunami preparedness."
The CATAAlliance awards program recognizes Canadian organizations
demonstrating expertise, innovation and leadership in the technology field.
The Outstanding Product Achievement ICT award is given to the Canadian
organization demonstrating excellence in technological engineering of a
world-class product or family of products. The products' successful operation
and market infiltration works to enhance Canada's international reputation for
innovation. EMOS is fast becoming a standard emergency management system
platform with Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan governments currently
deploying and/or utilizing the solution.
EMOS is a secure, managed, web-based system supporting the key functions
of emergency management - mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery. It
is a powerful platform enabling effective communication and decision making
across emergency management stakeholders. Officials can access geographic
information with GeoExplorer (a web-based geographic information system),
share updates through incident logging capabilities, and quickly notify large
stakeholder groups including fire, police, emergency workers and citizens.
TELUS' Emergency Management Operating System is currently being
demonstrated at the 17th World Conference on Disaster Management in Toronto,
Ontario, July 8-11.
