TORONTO, May 3 /CNW/ - The Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA)
announced today that Penelope (Penny) Marrett has joined the Association as
its new President and CEO.
"Ms. Marrett's dedication to consumer choice and health freedom as well
as her track record of leadership with legislators in Ottawa and advocacy at
large, are tremendous assets for our Association," says Michel Sirgent,
Chairman, CHFA Board of Directors.
Penelope Marrett's most recent appointment was as the CEO of the Canadian
Mental Health Association where she worked to further the organization's
mandate in pivotal areas including public policy.
Prior to this, she held several key positions with other national
not-for-profit agencies and associations including COO of The Arthritis
Society. Ms. Marrett's contacts within Health Canada, other federal government
departments, and her involvement in several Standing Committees at the federal
level will be an asset, particularly as the natural products industry
currently undergoes the last two years of a transition period in compliance
with Health Canada's NHP Regulations.
"Canadians have increasingly turned to natural health products to better
manage their own health," says Ms. Marrett. "I look forward to working with
members of the CHFA who provide consumers access to natural alternatives in
managing their own health."
The Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA) is Canada's largest national
trade association representing the organic and natural products industry. Its
members include over 85 per cent of the retailers, suppliers, wholesalers,
distributors, and manufacturers that are involved in a variety of industry
sub-sectors such as vitamin and mineral supplements, herbals, homeopathics,
sports nutrition products, natural foods and organic products. Our members'
products support Canadians seeking optimal health and quality of life.
The CHFA exists to empower and support our members by acting on their
behalf to secure a fair regulatory environment, hosting forums that showcase
innovative products, delivering ongoing vital and relevant education, and
providing valuable member services. This ensures that our industry is
sustainable and stronger both culturally and financially.
