Canadian production team already on the ground in Haiti to cover earthquake

TORONTO, Jan. 15 /CNW/ - Toronto-based producers PTV Productions Inc. has teamed up with the Red Cross to film a major documentary series about the rescue and recovery efforts taking place in earthquake-hit Haiti.

Inside Disaster is a 3-part series that will document the efforts of experienced International Red Cross and Red Crescent disaster relief workers known as FACT (Field Assessment and Coordination Team) as they assess damage and coordinate the supply of life-saving water, healthcare, shelter, and food following the Haiti disaster.

Nadine Pequeneza, the Director and Co-Producer, will lead her team in capturing stories of both aid workers and recipients in the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake. Starting today and for the next 30 days, the Inside Disaster website (http://insidedisaster.com/) will feature photos, blog posts, video and mini-documentaries from the front lines of the disaster relief effort, in both French and English.

"We hope the film and website can be a resource for the community as we try to get a sense of what's happening on the ground. The destruction of infrastructure in an already vulnerable country means that the Red Cross and other relief agencies will be playing a vital role in the relief effort in Haiti and the goal of the documentary is to capture both the urgency and complexity of that work." - Andrea Nemtin, Producer

The series will air on TVO and Canal D in 2011 and is being distributed by ITV Studios Global Entertainment, which has all rights to the series outside Canada.

Produced in association with TVO, ITVS Global Entertainment, Canal D, ACCESS, SCN and ichannel, with the financial support of the Government of Canada through the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and the participation of the Canadian Television Fund.
