QUEBEC, March 3 /CNW Telbec/ - Opsens Inc. (TSX-V:OPS) ("Opsens") has
received an order for 60 transformer winding hotspot fiber optic temperature
monitoring systems.
The customer, a large emerging-market power utility, will use Opsens'
PowerSens II signal conditioner to monitor the transformers of its new power
grid, which should be in service by the end of 2009. Monitoring for hot spots
will help the customer to optimize load and increase the life span of the
transformers.
"We expect this significant order to lead to a continuing relationship
with the customer," said Opsens vice-president, sales and marketing, Yves
Plamondon. "The order confirms our ability to address the needs of electric
utilities and high-power transformer manufacturers."
Designed to work together with Opsens' OTG-T fiber optic temperature
sensors, the PowerSens II signal conditioner is unique for its reliability and
accuracy. Fitted with an internal reference system, the PowerSens II
constantly monitors performance and adjusts internal calibration if required.
This feature allows the PowerSens II to compensate for the effects of extreme
temperature variations, component aging, mechanical shocks and transformer
vibrations. The reliability of the PowerSens II allows Opsens to provide a
six-year warranty on its signal conditioner.
