MONTREAL, Oct. 14 /CNW Telbec/ - On September 25th, 2009, Sherry Kulchyski of Prince George, BC, received a letter from Reader's Digest Canada, by Priority Courier.

A busy career woman, Mrs. Kulchyski was alerted to the envelope by her family as she returned home from the office; to her amazement, it was a notice letting her know she had won $500,000 in the Reader's Digest 72nd National Sweepstakes. Inside the envelope she found a business card from Marisa Orsini, Prize Award Administrator at Reader's Digest, and a message to call Reader's Digest in Montreal as soon as possible.

Even though it was 8 p.m. on a Friday, in Montreal, Mrs. Kulchyski's family persuaded her to call the cell number on the business card, which she did, and after correctly answering a skill testing question, she was informed by Mrs. Orsini that she had won $500,000. Arrangements were immediately put in place for Sherry and her husband to travel to Montreal for the award ceremony at the Reader's Digest headquarters, on October 14th.

Mrs. Kulchyski has been entering Reader's Digest Sweepstakes since 1997, sometimes taking advantage of the special offers, and at other times diligently returning the information requested, without making any purchases, as was the case this time.

She says, "We see this as an opportunity to more fully enjoy our family, with some financial pressures removed. Our son and daughter live in opposite directions from us so building an addition to our home will give us more space for family celebrations - something we like to do frequently. Winning this prize draw takes the pressure off retirement, too. We are thrilled with our good fortune!"

Sherry has no plans to retire immediately; she loves her job, her clients and her staff, and has already put together a financial plan to make the best use of her winnings.

Since 1962 Reader's Digest Canada has given out more than 107,000 prizes for a total value over $24,000,000. To enter the Reader's Digest Canada 72nd National Sweepstakes, all participants had to do was to return their entry form by mail or by email as no purchase was required. All participants had to be Canadian residents, over the age of 18, and correctly answer the skill-testing question.

The Reader's Digest Canada 72nd National Sweepstakes was overseen by the accounting firm of Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton, LLP, Chartered Accountants.
