Canadian Medical Association launches new "What makes a healthy doc?" international podcast series

OTTAWA, March 17 /CNW Telbec/ - The Canadian Medical Association (CMA)
and the CMA's Centre for Physician Health and Well-being launched new Healthy
Practices podcast episodes today that take an up-close look at "What makes a
physician healthy".
Recorded in London, England at the November 2008 International Conference
on Doctors' Health, host Dr. Mamta Gautam talks to physician health leaders
from Norway, Spain, England, New Zealand, Canada and the United States and
examines physician wellness through an international lens. The podcasts, six
in total, will roll out over the next 12 weeks and will be available at
www.cma.ca/physicianhealth.
The first episode in the series, entitled "The many layers of the healthy
doc", went live today. It explores the fine balance between self-awareness,
collegiality within the profession and being a healthy physician. Dr. Patrick
Alley, coordinator of the Doctors' Health Advisory Service in Auckland, N.Z.,
talks to host Dr. Mamta Gautam about the benefits of drilling down and
learning what makes you and your colleagues tick.
"Physician health is a global movement," said Dr. Robert Ouellet, CMA
President. "Sustaining the health of physicians is critical to ensure a
healthy population - here in Canada or anywhere else in the world. CMA's
Healthy Practices podcast is one of the new social media we offer physicians
to ensure they are the best doctors they can be."
Healthy Practices is hosted by internationally-respected psychiatrist,
Dr. Mamta Gautam. "Although the causes of stress that negatively affect
physician health may vary depending on the country, the reality of the impact
is the same," she attests. It is through sharing knowledge and expertise that
we will maximize our ability to address physician-health issues. I am very
grateful to our podcast guests for their meaningful contributions to this
series."
Healthy Practices was launched at CMA's 2008 General Council. It explores
the challenges and ways of overcoming the stressors affecting the personal and
professional lives of physicians.
Healthy Practices features a range of expert guests, including physicians
and people from different walks of life, all of whom have important and
meaningful stories that encourage and promote the importance of living a
well-balanced and healthy life.
