TORONTO, Dec. 31 /CNW/ - Saturday night's historic NFL game between the
New England Patriots @ NY Giants was the most-watched television event of the
night in Canada.
A combined 1.27 million viewers watched on CTV and TSN (CTV - 636,000;
TSN - 638,000). Another 200,000 viewers watched the game on RDS.
It was not only the No. 1 program of the night, but easily outpaced
Hockey Night in Canada Game 1 by 18 per cent, and nearly 2.5 times the
audience of HNIC Game 2 (CBC, Game 1 - 1.08m; Game 2 - 519,000). The CTV/TSN
NFL telecast also delivered more Male 18-34 and more Male 18-49 viewers than
either Hockey Night in Canada game.
The results were made available today by BBM Nielsen Media Research.
The mid-week move to add the game to CTV's schedule on Saturday was
executed not only to generate added profile for the NFL heading into the
playoffs, but to protect its NFL advertising partners following the game's
move to CBS and NBC in the U.S.
The Patriots/Giants game was the No. 2 program of the week to-date
(Mon-Sat) in Canada, second only to CTV National News with Lloyd Robertson
(Dec. 27, 1.56m), and the No. 1 program on specialty television Saturday
