Faber Drive and Rick Campanelli launch World Vision Campaign

Vancouver high school hosts Faber Drive and Entertainment Tonight's
    Rick CampanelliVANCOUVER, Jan. 26 /CNW/ - On February 3, World Vision will launch the
Vancouver Campaign for Children at Vancouver Technical Secondary School with
local celebrities and 500 high school students. Hosted by Rick Campanelli, the
launch event will feature a musical performance by Vancouver's own Faber Drive
and special guest speaker Vancouver City Deputy Mayor George Chow.
    Rick Campanelli will speak of his own experiences visiting World Vision
projects in Rwanda and Tanzania. Students will also be performing a dance
routine.
    The goal of the six-week Vancouver Campaign for Children is to raise
awareness among local residents about issues affecting children in developing
countries and to encourage them to sponsor 3,000 children in need through
World Vision by March 16. "We believe that people in the Greater Vancouver
Area are up to this challenge," says Eva Harden, World Vision's British
Columbia regional manager. "The generous people of the area already sponsor
more than 77,000 children through World Vision."
    Vancouver Technical Secondary School was chosen as the site for this
campaign launch to thank the students for their participation in the World
Vision 30 Hour Famine. The World Vision 30 Hour Famine is the largest and
longest running youth event in Canada, raising important funds to fight
poverty, hunger and injustice. Last year students at Van Tech raised more than
$4,000. This year, their goal is to raise around $5,000. The national dates
for this event are April 3-4 and involve 100,000 students from across Canada
annually.
    "These students are prime examples of the big-heartedness of
Vancouverites when it comes to helping to eradicate poverty worldwide," adds
