HAMILTON, ON, Nov. 18 /CNW/ - On Monday, November 16th, 2009, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Hamilton-Niagara Drug Enforcement Section and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) successfully stopped a heroin importation scheme. In total, approximately 500 grams of heroin was discovered by CBSA Commercial Operations Section at Toronto International Airport. The heroin was located in a parcel that originated from India that contained several gowns destined for a Hamilton, Ontario residence. The drugs and parcel were turned over to the RCMP to investigate further.
The parcel was delivered which resulted in the arrest of Juliet IFEJIKA, age 33 of Hamilton, Ontario. IFEJIKA was charged with importing heroin and possession of heroin for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. IFEJIKA is currently in custody at the Hamilton Detention Centre pending a bail hearing 18th of November, 2009.
"Through shared information, gathered from numerous sources, law enforcement agencies are able to ensure that drugs can be seized before they reach our streets", said Sergeant Marc LaPorte of the RCMP. "Cooperative enforcement efforts between CBSA and the RCMP continue to pay huge dividends".
