Bank completes lighting retrofits at 34 branches in Toronto
TORONTO, July 22 /CNW/ - TD Canada Trust is shedding some light on
conservation. The bank is implementing a number of conservation programs in
its branch network to help reduce its operational footprint. Beginning with 34
of its branches in Toronto, TD Canada Trust completed lighting retrofits with
Osram Sylvania Limited through the Toronto Hydro-Electric System ("Toronto
Hydro") Business Incentive Program (BIP).
As a result, TD Canada Trust will annually save 1,223,393 kWh (equivalent
to the electricity use of more than 100 homes each year), reduce carbon
emissions by 220 MtCO2, and save $146,000 in electricity and maintenance
costs. TD will also benefit from maintenance savings annually. Toronto Hydro
applauds TD Canada Trust for being a customer who believes strongly in
conservation and is actively devoted to working towards a culture of
conservation in Toronto.
Toronto Hydro recognizes companies like TD by presenting them with the
'Customers for Conservation' award. 'Customers for Conservation' is an
initiative to celebrate the exciting and innovative conservation projects
undertaken by Toronto Hydro's commercial customers.
"Lighting retrofits in our branches is just one of the steps we're taking
to be more energy efficient. We're also reducing energy use by modifying our
heating and cooling systems, developing green building design standards,
greening our fleet and vehicle programs, and more," says Karen
Clarke-Whistler, Chief Environment Officer, TD Bank Financial Group. "TD was
the first bank in Canada to make a commitment to be carbon neutral and we're
on track to reach this goal in 2010."FACTS
- BIP is an incentive program aimed at owners and operators of
buildings. This includes: multi-residential customers; industrial
customers; and multi-use facilities 25,000 square feet or less (e.g.
commercial, office, retail, restaurant, convenience store, grocery
store, hotel properties.)
- To date, Toronto Hydro has paid for more than $1.5M in incentives
through BIP to cover the cost of upgrades such as lighting and
chiller upgrades, and building automation improvements.
- Approximately 167 Toronto Hydro customers have participated in BIP.
It is estimated that this will save more than 15 megawatts of
electricity so far - equivalent to taking the town of Kenora, Ontario
off the grid.
- Toronto Hydro's Customers for Conservation series recognizes business
customers that are bridging the gap between wanting to conserve
electricity and actually doing it. Customers who have participated in
Toronto Hydro programs or nominated by customers or the public are
chosen to be profiled. To nominate a business, customers can send an
email to contactus@torontohydro.com.Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited is the regulated "wires" affiliate
