SYLVAN LAKE, AB, Nov. 18 /CNW/ - Mary Gordon, Founder/President of the ground-breaking, Canadian, evidence-based classroom program, Roots of Empathy (ROE) currently celebrating its eighth successful year of delivery in the province of Alberta, will be hosting a key note speech at the Family and Community Centre in Sylvan Lake, Alberta. The theme of the talk will be "weaving empathy through communities" and the synergies that happen when empathy is fostered in the community. Roots of Empathy's mission is to build caring, peaceful and civil societies through the development of empathy in children in adults.
Mary Gordon is an internationally recognized educator, author, social entrepreneur, child advocate, and founder of this award-winning program. Media representatives are invited to attend and there will be an interview opportunity following the presentation.
Since the program was first introduced in Alberta in 2002 the program has reached more than 42,000 children in over 1,700 classrooms. In Canada, the program runs in rural and urban communities, in English and French, and in Aboriginal classrooms both on and off reserve. The Roots of Empathy program is also delivered internationally in New Zealand, the Isle of Man and in Seattle, Washington in the United States.
