VANCOUVER, April 20 /CNW/ -
At approximately 10:20 pm (local time), Sunday, April 19, an armed young
man forced his way through a security checkpoint at Sangster International
Airport and boarded CANJET flight number 918 destined for Halifax, Nova
Scotia, with a scheduled stop in Santa Clara, Cuba. This was an armed
intrusion, not an undetected breach of pre-board passenger screening. As with
most airports around the world, Sangster International Airport checkpoint
screening personnel are not armed.
The gunman held hostage members of the crew and passengers who were on
board at the time for a short period. Jamaica Defence Force Counter Terrorism
Operations Group responded and secured the release of all on board.
Thankfully, there were no injuries.
