TORONTO, July 6 /CNW/ - Members of the Communications, Energy and
Paperworkers Union (Local 87-M) today ratified five-year contracts for
Editorial, Advertising Sales, Circulation and Maintenance workers at The Globe
and Mail. Eighty-five percent of the votes cast were in favour of the new
agreements, details of which are being shared with management and non-union
staff today and will not be disclosed to the media.
"We're very pleased to have reached an agreement with the union that
acknowledges the changing realities of the media industry," said Phillip
Crawley, Publisher and CEO, The Globe and Mail. "The Globe and Mail is
committed to making tough business decisions now which are needed to ensure
our ongoing success in a challenging economic environment and an evolving
media sector. Now we can focus all our energies on continuing with The Globe's
long term strategies."

The Globe and Mail, Canada's national newspaper, is a division of
CTVglobemedia, a dynamic multi-media company, which also owns CTV Inc.,
