Paul-Emile Cloutier named Secretary General & CEO of the Canadian Medical Association

    OTTAWA, June 4 /CNW Telbec/ - The Board of Directors of the Canadian
Medical Association (CMA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr.
Paul-Emile Cloutier as Secretary General and Chief Executive Officer of the
association. This nomination will be effective in July 2009.
    "Paul-Emile brings to the role a depth of knowledge of the association
and a passion for the medical profession and a strong health care system.
Working with the Board and our exceptional staff, he will help shape CMA's
vision and strengthen its national position as an advocate for physicians and
their patients," said Dr. Michael Golbey, Chair of the CMA Board of Directors.
"Paul-Emile's experience at the provincial/territorial and national levels,
along with his fluency in both official languages, will serve the CMA well and
further strengthen ties with its members across Canada."
    A native of Montréal, Mr. Cloutier joined the CMA as Assistant Secretary
General for Advocacy, Communications and Public Affairs in 2002. During his
7-year tenure he has helped make the CMA one of the most important and
successful players in the political federal arena. He has also played an
instrumental role in strengthening the CMA's media presence as the national
advocate for physicians and their patients.
    Mr. Cloutier holds a Masters' degrees in both administration and
political science from the University of Ottawa, where he has also been a
lecturer in Political Science.
    Mr. Cloutier has over 25 years of experience in public administration and
policy development. He has worked in several governmental departments,
including Intergovernmental Affairs at the Ontario government and the Federal
Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, International Relations
and International Development (Foreign Affairs), and the Federal Department of
Immigration.
    Prior to joining the CMA, Mr. Cloutier was Director of Community and
Government relations with Via Rail Canada Inc. His leadership was instrumental
in advancing support for Via Rail Canada's corporate Strategic plan with
public stakeholders at the national, provincial and regional levels.
    Mr. Cloutier is an active member in the community and serves as a board
member of the Montfort Hospital Foundation and on the Advisory Committee
Member of the Women's Executive Network.
    Dr. Golbey also recognized the efforts of Mrs. Barbara Drew who has been
acting secretary general and CEO since October 2008. Mrs. Drew will be
retiring from the CMA after 21 years of service.
