TORONTO, April 25 /CNW/ - This Sunday April 27th will be the day the Sikh
Community of Ontario takes to the streets of downtown Toronto to mark the
309th celebration of Vaisakhi. Over 70,000 Sikh are expected to attend.
A group of Sikh youth students and young professionals have gotten
together to create a float for the parade. The float is called "We Are
Sikhs...We Are Canadian." This float will represent the vast array of Sikhs in
Canada, promoting a positive image of multiculturalism.
Canada being the pinnacle of diversity in the world, we thought it would
be a good opportunity to show the global society how PROUD Sikhs are of this
country, Canada.
Canada has a Sikh population of over 400,000, with the first migrating in
1897 following Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee.
This float has been created with over 500 hours of volunteer work by
young Sikh Canadians, who love their country of Canada and wanted to publicly
display their patriotism.
I would urge the media community to come and see this float and talk to
the youth about this great project.
The float will be at the Better Living Centre in Toronto at 12pm noon
Sunday April 27th 2008, and will commence in the parade at 1pm traveling to
Nathan Phillips Square by 3pm.
Thank You.
