Sunwing announces record results through third quarter

TORONTO, March 13 /CNW/ - The Sunwing Travel Group, which comprises
Sunwing Airlines and Sunwing Vacations, today announced excellent
year-over-year financial results as the company closed its third quarter at
the end of January.
"Our capacity is twice that of last year - mainly due to significant
expansion into Western Canada," says Stephen Hunter, COO. "And our profits are
already tracking more than double those of winter 06/07."
Despite the increased capacity, Sunwing has achieved an increase in load
factor, up 3.5% year over year. "Our additional capacity this year was in
direct response to increased consumer demand for our product," says Hunter.
"Our high frills-low cost model has caught the attention of the Canadian
traveler, and has helped us to post strong results for the past 24 consecutive
months." Sunwing's main focus, he adds, continues to be on increasing net
margins beyond industry averages, while generating high customer satisfaction.
The strong financial performance comes on top of a plethora of awards for
the company, which has twice been named by Profit magazine as one of the
100 fastest-growing companies in Canada. Stephen Hunter and company president
Colin Hunter were named as Ernst and Young Entrepreneurs of the year last
fall, and Quebec travel agents recently voted Sunwing Airlines "airline of the
year" after just two years in that market.
Sunwing offers package holidays and flights to hundreds of resorts in
30 sun destinations, from 24 cities across Canada. Sun destinations include
Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America. In summer there is also a network
of domestic flights. Most flights are on Sunwing Airlines, which is rapidly
gaining a name for offering passengers a host of inclusions other airlines now
charge for. These include a choice of hot meals, served with wine, at lunch
and dinner, and free inflight entertainment with yours-to-keep headsets.
