Samaritan's Purse Canada to aid Myanmar cyclone victims

Christian relief and development organization responds to crisis in
    Southeast Asia

CALGARY, May 5 /CNW/ - Christian relief and development organization
Samaritan's Purse Canada is working with indigenous partners in Myanmar to
assess and provide aid to those affected by the deadly cyclone that struck the
southeast Asian nation (also known as Burma) on Saturday.
The death toll from the cyclone has been estimated at more than 10,000
people, with at least 4,000 more still missing and hundreds of thousands left
homeless. The Myanmar government has issued an appeal for international
assistance in the face of an escalating humanitarian crisis. Survivors are
facing their third night without electricity in the aftermath of the 10-hour
storm.
Samaritan's Purse Canada invites donations from those seeking to assist
with its relief efforts.
By working with local organizations on the ground in crisis situations,
Samaritan's Purse Canada is able to meet critical needs quickly with minimal
red tape - offering emergency resources such as food, medical supplies, safe
water, and shelter materials. The Calgary-based organization has been working
in Myanmar for nearly a decade - providing safe drinking water, medical
training and children's ministries.
