TORONTO, Dec. 15 /CNW/ - The Toronto Port Authority's board of directors
met over the weekend and voted to extend the term of current chair Chris
Henley.
The board determined that, in light of potential additions to the board
and the importance of maintaining continuity in the current circumstances, it
was best to extend Mr. Henley's term until such time as the federal government
appoints two additional directors or until such time as his successor is
appointed by the board.
"Since September, many emerging issues relating to a volatile economy
forced the board to reconsider the rotating chair format," Mr. Henley said.
"The board agreed that current events made stable oversight and leadership
continuity essential. At the end of the day, the board decided it was more
prudent to stay with an established chair to ensure that continuity and
stability rather than continue with the previously announced rotating format."
"I'm pleased and honoured that the board has decided to renew their
confidence in me as their chair, and we look forward to building an even more
transparent and responsive governance structure and continuing to build on the
progress made to date at the Port Authority" Mr. Henley said.
