Red Hat Society, CARP, Toastmasters and Lions: Top Groups for Semi-Retiring Boomers, Author Says

HAMILTON, ON, June 11 /CNW/ - "Ten million Canadian boomers are starting
a new lifestyle by re-balancing their time, their talents and their resources.
Most will not retire, but will invent semi-retirement. They will transform the
"me" generation into the "we" generation," says Ian Taylor in his upcoming
book Are You Ready for Semi-Retirement? A Boomer's Guide to Success, Freedom
and Adventure.Taylor's top organizations for boomers:

        1. The Red Hat Society. "Boomer women turning 50 deserve more fun,
especially if they've dealt with boomer men all their lives," says
           Taylor.
        2. CARP. "The Canadian Association for the Fifty-plus is now headed
by Moses Znaimer with Susan Eng handling advocacy. Watch for great
things from CARP and join as soon as you turn 50."
        3. Toastmasters and Alcoholics Anonymous groups are the top self-help
           organizations in the world.
        4. Consider Lions, Rotary, Kiwanis or a well-established service
           club.
        5. A neighbourhood, environmental or community cause.
        6. A professional network.
        7. A tolerant, diverse and dynamic faith community that can foster
circles of care for you as you age."This book is a call to action for boomers to get out of debt, start
giving back to their community and have more fun while living on less. The
spoiled, gifted and blessed boomer generation may be best-equipped to save the
planet," says Taylor, who became semi-retired in 1988 at age 38.
