Youth get connected at Global Development Village

TORONTO, April 30 /CNW/ - Many young people know about the world's
problems but never hear about solutions. The Global Development Village is a
welcome change! Over 2000 young people will gather at Toronto's Downsview Park
on May 6, 7, 8 and 10, to take part in interactive and empowering workshops
that will inspire them as future leaders.
The event, organized by Scouts Canada and the Institute without
Boundaries at George Brown College, deals with priorities identified by the
United Nation's Millennium Goals: Human Rights, Nature and the Environment,
Human Health, and Peace.
Youth will have the chance to take part in exciting hands-on activities,
learn about the issues and discover ways to take action from leading
organizations such as the Red Cross, Youth Challenge International, Downsview
Park, the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, UNICEF and Spread the
Net, and Engineers without Borders.
"Youth have the imagination and the passion to really make a difference
in this world," explains Dan Nelson, event organizer. "The Global Development
Village shows them how to find that global development issue they're
passionate about and to work for something they believe in."
While the weekday sessions are fully booked by schools, The Global
Development Village welcomes all members of the public on Saturday, May 10,
starting at 10 a.m. The free event is supported by the Canadian International
Development Agency and Parc Downsview Park. Admission is free. More details
are available at www.youthoftheworld.ca. Photo opportunities and interviews
can be arranged.
