Spring forum to focus on NSSBA leadership and student success

DARTMOUTH, NS, May 7 /CNW/ - The Nova Scotia School Boards Association
(NSSBA) will host a spring forum on school board leadership Thursday, May 8 to
Friday, May 9, at the Holiday Inn Harbourview, Dartmouth, NS.
The forum will focus on school board leadership and its positive impact
on student achievement. Mary Delagardelle, executive director of the Iowa
School Boards Foundation, will present the findings of the foundation's
research The Lighthouse Inquiry: Examining the Role of School Board Leadership
in the Improvement of Student Achievement. "It's comforting to have the
backing of solid research demonstrating the effectiveness of school boards and
the positive impact they have on our students," says NSSBA President Elliott
Payzant.
The forum will also feature Pat Cochrane, chair of the Calgary Board of
Education, who will outline the steps the Calgary Board took to become
recognized for outstanding board governance by the Conference Board of Canada.
In addition, a panel of partners representing parents, teachers,
administrators, school boards and chambers of commerce, will provide their
perspectives on effective board governance.
The forum is open to school board members, those considering running for
school boards in the October elections, administrators, teachers, parents,
(home & school, and SAC members), and education partners. Interested persons
can register online, space permitting, by visiting www.nssba.ednet.ns.ca.
