OTTAWA, Sept. 29 /CNW Telbec/ - Negotiations aiming at renewing
collective agreements for CN locomotive engineers and rail traffic controllers
are to start within the next few weeks. In addition, CP rail traffic
controllers will also be negotiating at the same time.
"Workers at CN and CP have made it possible for these companies to haul
in record profits over the past few years thanks to their efficiency and
professionalism," explained Dan Shewchuk, President of the Teamsters Canada
Rail Conference. "Companies must recognize this and compensate them for their
good work."
The contracts will end on the coming 31st of December. Negotiations will
affect more than 2500 employees of Canadian National and Canadian Pacific. The
Teamsters Union represents more than 15 000 workers in the railroad industry.
