VIRGIL, ON, Sept. 17 /CNW/ - Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation
(CMHC) recognized Carriage Lane Homes today for building healthier homes at
the company's newly constructed house in Virgil, near Niagara-on-the-Lake.
"CMHC is proud to recognize Carriage Lane Homes for its dedication to
building eco-friendly and healthy homes," said Bill Crawford, CMHC Senior
Advisor, Research and Technology. "Carriage Lane Homes have strived to improve
their building practices and demonstrated the skills and knowledge necessary
to build healthier homes that are not only energy and resource efficient, but
Carriage Lane Homes' eco-friendly design, at 34 Raiana Drive in Virgil,
is healthy and very energy-efficient. The home combines tight, well-insulated
construction with an energy-efficient heat recovery ventilation system. The
home also features radiant in-floor heating, a reverse osmosis filtered water
system and an on-demand tankless hot water system.
"Building healthier housing is important simply because we spend most of
our time at home. In an increasingly chemical world, a person's castle should
provide the healthiest environment possible," said John Thiffault, CEO,
Carriage Lane Homes. "We are pleased to receive this recognition from CMHC for
our efforts in building quality, healthy homes that are energy efficient and
reduce green house gas emissions."
The builder also received the prestigious Certificate of Recognition from
Peter Love, Ontario's Chief Energy Conservation Officer. "It can be difficult
to be a leader, to be among the first to try to change the way we look at
houses," said Love. "Not just granite countertops and stainless steel
appliances, but as places that affect the environment. I hope that customers
will demand more of these homes."
